Visit Big Bear Farmers’ Market

The opening of the Big Bear Farmers’ Market is something we look forward to each spring at Big Bear Frontier .  The Big Bear Farmers’ Market started in 1992.  All farm vendors are local to Big Bear and must sell their own produce from within a 300 mile radius. If you’re buying local or if you’re looking for farm to table produce in Big Bear, this is the place to be!

It was a particularly beautiful day in Big Bear so I decided to head over to the market to see what was going on and to pick up some awesome produce. Not surprisingly, the vendors at the market are friendly and were more than happy to chat and let me take photos of their products.  They’re happy to provide samples, so always ask!  I tried all kinds of great food locally sourced from Big Bear including fruits, vegetables, dips, and nuts.  I even tried some lotions made locally in Big Bear. I took several photos of my excursion and I’ll share them with you here.

There were so many different varieties of fruits and vegetables to choose from, it was difficult to decide which to buy!  I purchased some fresh spring flowers and a big bundle of strawberries to take back to the front desk.  Next week I think I will buy a big bag of oranges and maybe even a couple of spice plants to add to my garden, but who knows!  Before long I was starving and the sizzling of marinated chicken made my mouth water.  I sniffed my way to the source and had a great taco and horchata, an iced rice water drink with cinnamon and sugar. Both really hit the spot.

If you’re vacationing in Big Bear, expect the market to have freshly picked fruits, vegetables and flowers from local farmers along with retail, craft and baked goods. It’s perfect for a light lunch or to pick up food for a picnic on the beach.  Once thing I noticed was that there seemed to be more booths this year. So I asked and discovered there are nine new vendors registered at the market this season. As the weather warms up more are expected to join, it’s always a nice surprise to see who is there.

The market is held at the Big Bear Lake Convention Center on the corner of Division Drive and Big Bear Boulevard, and is open each Tuesday from 8:30 am until 1:00 pm. The market runs until October or when the produce season winds down. For more information, if you’d like to be a vendor, visit the market’s website at
