What to do in Big Bear Lake | August 13 – August 19, 2012

Water Water Everywhere!

Parasailing - Big Bear Lake
I think you can see Los Angeles from here!

We talk quite a bit about Big Bear Lake. We love all of the activities that go on around it: concerts, Art on the Lake, cowboy festival, the list is endless. Every day of the week there is always something fun to do in the surrounding area. But what about all the activities you can do ON the lake? Boating and fishing are just the beginning! With only a little bit of summer left, now is the time to play on the lake. Look how nice it is going to be!

This Week at Big Bear Lake

Running all over the Lake

With all the activities to do on the lake, it is hard to know where to begin. Here’s our suggestion. The whole family can find something to do at Swim Beach and we recommend to go play on the water, on the slides, or just relax on the sand with a book. But get there soon,  because it closes after Labor Day! For those looking for a little more variety in their water sports, Pine Knot Landing offers many more options for lake activities, from educational tours, renting boats for fishing, or doing a little stand-up paddle boarding. If you really want to go all out and are curious about extreme sports, check out Big Bear Parasail and really see what a huge jolt of adrenaline feels like! You blast across the lake on jet boats or wave runners, or fly above the lake on a parasail. So many alternatives to choose from!

Boating Safety on Big Bear Lake

Getting out on the lake in your own boat safely can be a snap with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 11-12! They are offering a one day safety workshop this weekend from 8 AM to 5:30 PM at the Big Bear Municipal Water District Board Room. It covers local dangers, how to handle a boat, and provides you with a valuable safety certificate at the end of the classes. Since you are now a safe boater, it is the time to consider what to do next week!

Big Bear Bass Tournament

Whether you are a committed bass angler, or just a fan of B’s Backyard BBQ, you only have two more chances to try your hand at Aaron’s Big Bear Bass Tournaments, August 24th and September 22nd. It’s been a good summer for trout fishing and this weekend will be no exception! Part of the entry fee goes right back to the Big Bear Municipal Water District, to help keep the lake stocked and the fishing fun.

Getting outside and playing in the lake is one of the best ways to spend your time here in the Southern California mountains. When it is time to dry off a little or take a break from hiking, biking, or discovering nature, we have spacious rooms available for you right in the heart of it all, within walking distance from all these amazing activities. We look forward to spending some time with you while you are here.
