Our local ski resorts, Snow Summit and Bear Mountain, also love this winter weather. Speaking of Snow Summit, if you don’t have plans for New Year’s Eve yet might we suggest spending it with them on the slopes? The party kicks off at 6:30 pm December 31st with the free Torchlight Parade. Bring the whole family for this unique event and watch over 200 skiers and snowboarders descend down the mountain side and dressed to the holiday nines in costumes that range from slope best to Christmas zany. Participants in the parade provide the only light to the darkened slopes, making a beautiful slight that can be seen throughout many points in Big Bear. The parade lasts until 7:30 pm.
Trade in your toboggan for your party hat because beginning at 7 pm Snow Summit revelers ring in the New Year with not one but two parties on the mountain. Cost is $40 for admission to both celebrations—the Slopeside Speakeasy and Hawks ’52—and includes a champagne toast at midnight and appetizers from 9:30 pm to 10:30 pm. Live music will be on site with a DJ spinning up dance beats in the Slopeside Speakeasy and acoustic music in Hawks ’52. The party keeps going until 2 am so your 2016 will definitely start on a good note!
