What to do this week in Big Bear Lake
Winter Fishing

Like I said, winter fishing is good at Big Bear Lake and now is an exceptionally good time to trout fish. The lake is stocked regularly by the California Department of Fish and Game and at least 1000 rainbow trout are raised by the Municipal Water District every spring, which just happens to be right next door to Big Bear Frontier.
I’ve done a bit of research and have found out that trout tend to migrate to cooler temperatures, so your chances of reeling one in from our beach or our dock are very high this time of year. During the summer months, it is much harder to reel them in from shore.
Winter fishing calls for different tackle and bait than you would use in the summer. Big Bear Sporting Goods is right around the corner from us here, so you can stop by and get advice on what to use.
Snowboarding and the Peanut Butter and Rail Jam
On Saturday, January 15th, come to Bear Mountain for the Peanut Butter and Rail Jam. Big Bear is the third stop this season for this amateur contest series hosted by VOLCOM. The goal of the series is to give something back to the young people.
Deviating from the established way snowboard contests are run, the people at Volcom came up with a fresh format. Instead of having three rails in a row, they put them side by side to create a rail zone. This boosts the energy level and fun of the contest as everyone is together – riding, hiking, and watching in a big group. There are four divisions; 15 & under, 16 & over, Girls and Open (pro-am).
Starting at 8:00A.M., the contest will run in a jam format, so there are no scheduled runs. Hit each of the rails as many times as you like during your 20 minute heat. Judging is only on the tricks you pull, so you don’t need to worry about falling. The event is free, on a first come first serve basis, and boasts tons of free prizes and PB&J sandwiches! Everyone who enters walks away with a t-shirt and stickers!! See you on the hill! For more details please call (909) 585-2519 or visit http://www.volcom.com/pbrj/index.asp?seasonId=23
