What to do this week in Big Bear
Golden-colored maple leaves shimmering in the breeze. Crisp mornings where you can see your breath. This is autumn in California’s San Bernardino Mountains. If you hurry, there’s time to enjoy the fall colors with a stay at Big Bear Frontier before winter sets in.
Located on the south shore of Big Bear Lake, Big Bear Frontier offers a number of accommodation choices including motel-style rooms and a variety of cabins. One highlight here, a great choice for a fall week day at only $99.00 per night, is a cozy little studio cabin with a queen bed and a jacuzzi tub and fireplace. Built in the 1930′s, these cute little cabins offer a Western flavor with modern amenities such as full kitchens, heat and fully equipped bathrooms.
After a good night’s sleep in this lovely cabin you’ll want to start your day with a breakfast at The Teddy Bear Restaurant in the village. Chow down on the area’s best best veggie omelet stuffed with spinach and cauliflower and your choice of cheese as you watch the morning mist rise from Big Bear Lake revealing Butler’s peak, the highest point in Big Bear.
After breakfast walk off that omelet by taking the 2+ mile hike around the Alpine pedal path on the north shore. Later, stop by the Moonridge Animal Park and watch rescued wild animals in their own habitat.
Finally, weekends through October 29 visit the 41st Annual Oktoberfest at the Big Bear Lake Convention Center. If you are visiting Big Bear during this event you definitely do not want to miss it!
