This Week in Big Bear | October 3- October 9, 2011

October is here and with it comes cooler daytime temperatures. Look at Thursday’s high, for example – 46 degrees! Despite the cool temperatures it is lovely weather in Big Bear Lake. Some days are a bit chilly but still sunny, so you should come on up and enjoy the sunshine. Often 60° feels warmer here because of our altitude ranging from 6750 feet to nearly 9000 feet. We’re closer to the sun than those of you that live in lower altitudes! Now is the time to enjoy these cooler temperatures with a hike or by taking in one of our fall festivals.

Tuesday, October 4- The Big Bear Farmers Market starts at 8:30 am every Tuesday at the Big Bear Lake Convention Center. The selection of fruits, veggies, antiques, shoes, toys, jewelry, etc. is different every week. Enjoy the bounty of the Big Bear region this fall!

Wednesday, October 5- Enjoy the changing of the seasons and head over to the Alpine Pedal Path. Situated along the North Shore of beautiful Big Bear Lake, the Alpine Pedal Path offers something for everyone, even those in a wheelchair or pushing a stroller. The 3.5 mile (each way) route that begins at Stanfield Cutoff is paved and level with only a few gentle ups and downs, an easy trek for anyone who laces up tennis shoes or inline skates. Along the way enjoy incredible views of surrounding Southern California mountain peaks, including Snow Summit across the water and the lake itself is a constant companion, sometimes just a few feet from the path.

Thursday, October 6- Cooking Demonstrations at the Copper Q! Copper Q Restaurant and Culinary Store has cooking demonstrations on Thursday and Friday at 10:30 am. There are 2 different demonstrations on Saturday. One is at 10:30am and the other at 1:00 pm. Learn all you can from these neat cooking lessons.
