This Week in Big Bear | August 1-7, 2011

It looks like it promises to be another beautiful week in Big Bear Lake. We’ll start out the week with isolated thunderstorms possible but move into sunshine for the rest of the week, making it a perfect time to head to the lake! Remember that it gets cool at night in this part of Southern California, so bring a jacket for evening.

Weather in Big Bear this week

Monday: High 79, isolated thunderstorms possible with a low of 54.

Tuesday: High 82, another isolated storm possible with a low of 53

Wednesday: Sunny with a high of 82. Perfect!

Thursday: Another sunny day with a high of 80. Low 48.

Friday: Sunshine and high of 79 with a low of 49.

Saturday and Sunday – highs in the upper 70s with lows in the low 50s.

What to do this week in Big Bear

Monday, August 1st- Mark Twain left some inspiration in Big Bear as the Miss Liberty Paddlewheel Boar Tour is available to board from the Pine Knot Marina daily. Miss Liberty Paddlewheel Tour Boat is a fully narrated 90 minute guided tour featuring highlights of Big Bear’s rich history dating back to 1845. The tour is available for special events, weddings, and twilight cruises.  Early reservations are recommended; call (909) 866-8129 for more information.

Tuesday, August 2- The Tour de Big Bear is this weekend!! The Big Bear Cycling Association has designed Cyclist Training Rides ranging from 25-50 miles for experts, and will meet at the Interlaken Shopping Center at 5pm.  Intermediate training rides are also available, ranging from 20-40 miles, and will meet at Maggio’s Pizza in the Interlaken Shopping Center.  The Tour de Big Bear is mapped at 25, 50, or 70 miles en route circling around greater Big BearValley.

Wednesday, August 3rd- Walk on water at Big Bear Lake! Rent a Paddle Board at Big Bear Marina and enjoy a unique, serene view of Big Bear Lake as water surrounds you from all sides.  The calm midweek waters of Big Bear Lake are perfect for paddle-boarders of all levels!

Thursday, August 4th- Need more water? Learn How to Canoe through the Big Bear Discovery Center Tour every Thursday from 4pm-6pm.  Enjoy a relaxing, two-hour guided tour of Big Bear Lake after a quick paddling lesson.  Bring your own canoe or rent one from nearby and dock it outside your room at the Big Bear Frontier Lodge at our boat dock!

Friday, August 5th- The Bear Valley Community Healthcare District Foundation presents the stage version of  “On  Golden Pond” at the Performing Arts Center. This popular play written by Ernest Thompson was later made into an Oscar winning movie starring Henry Fonda & Katherine Hepburn. We’re celebrating its 30th anniversary by presenting the original stage version here in Big Bear.  Tickets are $20 and net proceeds go to the Mom & Dad Project, sponsored by the Hospital Foundation. Saturday, August 6th- Start your morning off by dropping by the Big Bear City Airport for the Wings Over Big Bear Air Fair. Gates open at 7am and feature skydivers and over a dozen vintage aircrafts like the B-52 Mitchell Bomber.  Hurry over to the Big Bear Village following the event to cheer on locals and travelers as they race in the Tour de Big Bear beginning and finishing in the village from 8am-3pm.  Once they are off, grab a beach chair and relax at the Blues for the Zoo  Concert from 1:00-7:00 at the Swim Beach Outdoor Amphitheater just down the road. What a day for Big Bear!

Sunday, August 7th- Did you know Big Bear is one of the prime off-road summer destinations? Join in the fun with a Big Bear offroad tour! Experience a rough 4×4 adventure and spot local historical sites, and even rare wildflower viewing.  Truly an activity everyone will enjoy!
