What to do in Big Bear for Memorial Day Weekend

There will be great weather leading up to the holiday weekend in Big Bear!  Every day promises to be beautiful this week as the temperatures work their way from the 50’s to 74° for Memorial Day.  The nighttime temperatures will range mostly in the 40’s.  Perfect weather for sleeping!  

You might want to set your alarm for 7:00 p.m. nightly so you won’t miss the lovely sunsets.  You’ll really experience our “island in the sky” as you consume the beauty.  Sunset times range from 7:15 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

Tuesday, May 24, 2011 64° daytime and 40° at night

Wednesday, May 25, 2011 68° day and 41° at night

Thursday, May 26, 2011 69° and 43°

Friday, May 27, 2011 Wow! A high of 74° with low of 47°

Saturday,May 28, 2011Drops to 73° in the daytime, 44° at night

Sunday, May 29, 2011 High of 72° with low at 43°

Monday, May 30, 2011 Drops to 69°in the daytime and 40°

What to do for Memorial Day Weekend:

Saturday, May 28, 2011, the Big Bear Valley Historical Museum opens for the season.  This museum offers so much history about Big Bear, how the Serrano Indians were the first to occupy the land and the evolution of Big Bear from 1843 along with lots of Big Bear trivia.  For example, did you know that Big Bear was almost chosen as the county seat? This is a quaint little place that will stay firmly entrenched in your mind when you think of Big Bear. Visit www.bigbearhistory.org/, click on Historical Museum for more information. 

Also on Saturday the Big Bear Discover Center holds one of their many Summer Concert Series, put on by “Singers and Songwriters”  Be at the Discovery Center at 7 p.m. on North Shore Drive to take in this fun event.  The Summer Concert series profits go towards forest restoration.

Take a few minutes to look at the Big Bear Discovery website, checking out the amphitheater, the events, and all they have to offer.  You’ll find canoe and kayak tours, hiking and an array of things to do each week.  Explore www.bigbeardiscoverycenter.com and plan some of their activities in your itinerary.   

May 28, and 29, 2011 is the Old Time Country Fair at Moonridge Animal Park.  This event is a blast for you and your family.  There are games, arts and craftsand a contest where you guess which of the three bears at the zoo can eat the most pie. Sunday May 29, 2011 is the Antique Car Club Show & Shine at Citi-Bank Plaza from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.  This show involves a competition with the 5 grade students.  See more at http://www.zvents.com/z/big-bear-lake-ca/antique-car-club-show-and-shine-at-citi-bank-plaza–events- or call 909-584-4333.
